Adam Ottavino Says He Would Strike Out Babe Ruth Every Single Time - He's 100% Correct

The Score

Free-agent right-hander Adam Ottavino isn’t short on confidence as he looks for work this winter.

“I had an argument with a coach in Triple-A about Babe Ruth’s effectiveness in today’s game,” Ottavino told Mike Petriello on MLB.com’s Statcast Podcast. “… I said, ‘Babe Ruth, with that swing, swinging that bat, I got him hitting .140 with eight homers.'”

“He was like, ‘are you nuts? Babe Ruth would hit .370 with 60 homers,’ and I’m like, ‘I would strike Babe Ruth out every time.’ I’m not trying to disrespect him, you know, rest in peace, you know, shout out to Babe Ruth. But, it was a different game, I mean the guy ate hot dogs and drank beer and did whatever he did. It was just a different game.”

First thing is first. That Triple-A coach thinking Babe Ruth would hit .370 with SIXTY HOMERS is maybe the dumbest human being to ever live. If a GM ever gets wind of who said that he should fire him on the spot. If Babe Ruth was resurrected in the year 2018 and decided to give baseball a second chance he would be absolutely positively fucked. What was Babe facing in the 1920s? Well, it was the first time pitchers weren’t allowed to deface, scuff, or deform baseballs (the beginning of the live ball era). They were forced into a whole new pitching world and hung out to dry. That allowed hitters like Ruth to absolutely crush these guys as they tried to adapt to the new rules. The year is 2018 and we’re almost 100 years advanced of the beginning of the dead ball era’s death. Pitchers have figured out how to pitch and right now they’re dominating the sport. What do you think George Herman Ruth is doing against Adam Ottavino, one of baseball’s more slept on arms?

L O L

Oh yeah sure….

The answer? He’s striking out every single time. Ruth wouldn’t stand a chance right now, I stand by that. I love Ottavino’s confidence and I hope he brings that to the Bronx in 2019.
